2025 MSLC Z-HOPE Initiative: For Period Sake – Dignity over Poverty
Chapters in the State of Maryland will galvanize as a State under Zeta’s Power of S.H.E. to address a full multi-layered impact with Social, Health, and Economic Justice affecting Maryland women by empowering dignity.
The For Period Sake – Dignity over Poverty project will partner with organizations and schools in four Harford County locations to ensure that all menstruating adolescents and young women access essential menstrual products, thereby reducing absenteeism and promoting academic success. Period poverty is a significant issue affecting students’ ability to attend school and fully participate in educational activities. While Maryland has codified a process to provide menstrual products in its schools and community-supporting organizations, the supply is often depleted quickly. Therein, many students miss school due to a lack of access to menstrual products, which can lead to gaps in their education and negatively impact their academic performance.
Additionally, in school, when students have access to
necessary hygiene products, they can focus better on their studies without the distraction and stress of managing their periods without adequate supplies. This provides an array of options in support of Z-HOPE leading up to the State Conference.
