National Military Appreciation Week

Posted on November 4th, 2013

In celebration of National Military Appreciation Week, November 10 – 17, 2013, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. would like to honor our Veterans, Active Duty, National Guardsman, and Reservists who so honorably serve our nation. We also would like to honor their families who have gone through enormous sacrifices in order for these members to serve.

The following video provides highlights of a conversation between Soror Danielle R. Green, Maryland State Director, and Retired Rear Admiral Evelyn J. Fields, Honorary Member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., for Zeta’s first National Military Appreciation Week.  The conversation discusses the challenges of military enlisted, their families and how Zeta can support those who are honorably serving our country and their loved ones.  Soror Fields also discuss lessons learned from the military, the challenges women face in the military and how she would like to be remembered for her service.

Retired Rear Admiral Evelyn J. Fields, is the former director of the Office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Corps Operations and the NOAA Commissioned Corps.   She was nominated for this position by President William Jefferson Clinton on January 19, 1999, confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 1999 and subsequently promoted from captain to rear admiral, upper half. She was the first woman, and the first African American, to hold this position and still is the only African American woman to hold this position to date! The entire interview with Soror Fields will be shared with the sisterhood during National Military Appreciation Week.
