Lawrencia Scott Pierce named Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Secretary Edward Chow, Jr. announced Lawrencia Scott Pierce as Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). She is the first African-American female Deputy Secretary.
Pierce is an accredited attorney with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. As a Maryland State Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist she assisted disabled veterans, veterans with barriers, and transitioning military members to find employment, specialized resources, and veteran benefits assistance. She is also the designated United States Air Force (USAF) Key Spouse for the 1st Airlift Squadron, Joint Base Andrews.
Pierce served as a Captain in the USAF Judge Advocate General’s Corp. She is a graduate of both Southern University and A&M College and Southern University Law School. She and her husband, Lt Col Aaron M. Pierce, USAF are the proud parents of three children. They reside in Charles County.
“I look forward to working with Secretary Chow and the O’Malley-Brown Administration. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving veterans, and advocating on their behalf,” said Pierce.
National Military Appreciation Week

In celebration of National Military Appreciation Week, November 10 – 17, 2013, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. would like to honor our Veterans, Active Duty, National Guardsman, and Reservists who so honorably serve our nation. We also would like to honor their families who have gone through enormous sacrifices in order for these members to serve.
The following video provides highlights of a conversation between Soror Danielle R. Green, Maryland State Director, and Retired Rear Admiral Evelyn J. Fields, Honorary Member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., for Zeta’s first National Military Appreciation Week. The conversation discusses the challenges of military enlisted, their families and how Zeta can support those who are honorably serving our country and their loved ones. Soror Fields also discuss lessons learned from the military, the challenges women face in the military and how she would like to be remembered for her service.
